Rub-a-Dub-Dub Get Your New Honda in the Tub: Tips for the Perfect Car Wash

One question that we here at Smart Honda, serving the greater Ames, Urbandale and Clive communities, hear quite often is in regard to how we keep the new 2012 - 2013 Honda models in our showroom in such pristine condition. Today, is your lucky day because we're going to share our secret with you.

That pristine new-car finish you love doesn't have to fade after you drive your new ride home for the first time. All you have to do is wash your Honda once a week. See, the problem that most drivers have is that they wait until their car has built up a layer of dirt and grime to wash it. That allows acid and other chemicals to eat away through the paint and cause it to fade. By washing it once a week, and rinsing off dead bugs and bird droppings between washings, you can make your Honda shine like new years down the road.

Of course, there are a couple of other tips that we want to provide you with concerning the actual washing process:

-          Don't wash your car when the body is hot (i.e., in direct sunlight or after driving), as it can cause watermarks to form rapidly
-          Only use carwash soap to clean your Honda (avoid hand/dish soaps as they can cause the finish to fade)
-          Dry your wet car by using either a chamois (natural or synthetic) or soft terry towels (letting it dry naturally in the sun is another way for watermarks to form)
